The idea of artificial intelligence (AI) has been around since the 1950s and typically conjures up images of fully conscious robots. The manufacturing industry has exploited the use of AI being motivated by the competitive challenge of improving quality while at the same time decreasing costs and reducing design and production time. All of these were possible due to the researchers from academic side either corporate side.
