Leading Vendors in MachNation’s 2019 IoT Edge ScoreCard
Edge platforms are beginning to play a vital role in the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem. Businesses deploying IoT solutions recognize that many optimally designed IoT solutions, especially those in the industrial vertical, take advantage of one or multiple edge components. In fact, MachNation research suggests that most IoT solutions in verticals such as manufacturing, commercial transportation, building automation, and logistics will be required to leverage edge computing in order to meet business and operational requirements.
In its 2019 IoT Edge ScoreCard, MachNation rated 17 IoT edge platform vendors across a set of requirements spanning four distinct categories. The four categories of requirement consist of 17 sub-requirements that are the underlying bases of MachNation’s rating. The four categories are:
- Edge data processing
- Edge management
- Architecture and integration
- Strategy and business

Findings
MachNation suggests that enterprises evaluate a vendor’s edge capabilities based on four requirement categories: robust data processing; sophisticated edge manage- ment capabilities; a cogent architecture and capable integration model; and an established and forward-thinking business strategy. Leveraging these requirements, enterprises can ensure that they are selecting a best-in- class edge vendor.
