Our Picks from Hannover Messe 2019 – Day 1. What’s next on our agenda?

It seems that 2019 is truly the year for Digital Transformation, as almost all of the announcements/sessions we heard today were about Industrial IoT and Industrial cybersecurity. We might be biased as our focus is 100% on IIoT.

Here is what we found out today at Hannover Messe:

The purpose of Azure Security Center for IoT

Microsoft announced Azure Security Center for IoT, the world’s first comprehensive security offering for IoT. According to Sam George, Director, Azure Internet of Things, with Azure Security Center for IoT, customers would benefit from a holistic view of their IoT security and take measures aligned with industry best practices. Now Microsoft’s clients will be able to combine their IoT security data with the security data from across the enterprise, and then apply analysis techniques or machine learning to identify and mitigate threats.

The security center for IoT empowers manufacturers to reduce the attack surface of Azure IoT solutions running across all their operations, remediate issues before they become serious, and apply analytics and machine learning to prevent attacks. Azure is the first major public cloud provider to deliver the breadth of these security innovations for end-to-end IoT solutions, according to the same source. More info in this video, and also this blog post.

Industrial IoT Solutions with an Open Cloud Platform, Open Interoperability Standards, and Open Source

Last week Microsoft also announced enhancements to the Connected Factory solution accelerator, which now also integrates an OPC Twin dashboard.  Connected Factory is designed to accelerate proof-of-concepts in Industrial IoT and additionally offers OEE data across customers’ factories via a centralized dashboard.  Also, Microsoft launched new components based on open interoperability standards – OPC Twin and OPC Vault.  More information about Microsoft’s announcements regarding Industrial IoT can be found in the blog post by Sam George referenced above.

If you have questions for Sam, please send them via email at info@iiot-world.com as IIoT World’s other cofounder, Lucian Fogoros, will incorporate them into an upcoming video interview with Sam.

A new digital ecosystem, announced by Schneider Electric

Schneider Electric today announced the launch of Schneider Electric Exchange, the world’s first cross-industry open ecosystem dedicated to solving real-world sustainability and efficiency challenges.

According to Schneider Electric press release, with Schneider Electric Exchange anyone can:

  • Reach a larger customer base in otherwise hard-to-reach new markets
  • Gain access to a vast library of resources such as APIs, analytics, and data sets to improve digital offers
  • Leverage digital tools and expertise to scale solutions and speed up time to market
  • Collaborate through a powerful cloud-based platform to share insights and designs, and
  • Effectively manage and complete projects

Schneider Electric Exchange draws on the company’s ecosystem of digital partners to accelerate and scale innovation – and provide companies with the tools needed to operationalize AI for real-world problems. Accenture, a global management consulting and professional services firm, brings the ability to create customized solutions and develop digital business models.

Another partner, Claroty, a security specialist for operational technology infrastructure, offers industrial cybersecurity expertise, working with companies to address the larger digital risk surface that comes with integrating IIoT solutions.

Schneider is using published datasets and SaaS from the Schneider Electric Exchange partner Senseye, a technology company in predictive maintenance (UK), in one of its Smart Factory manufacturing plants, Le Vaudreuil. Here you can see all the partners of Exchange Ecosystem and this is the website of the new platform.

On the same subject, we published today an article by Vernon Turner. Vernon is Executive Analyst at Ecosystem as well as Principal and Chief Strategist at Causeway Connections, and a globally recognized expert in the traditional ICT market research. Check the article here.
