Improving Customer Engagement through Innovative Utility Marketplaces

Utilities are tasked with driving higher levels of saving through their demand-side management programs. Meanwhile, to thrive as “utilities of the future,” these companies must strengthen relationships with customers beyond their traditional roles, becoming customer energy management allies. Under these pressures, the market for utility online marketplaces is growing as providers and their utility partners begin to offer new solutions to customers in the residential and small-and-medium business space. This presentation gives an overview the factors driving activity in the utility online marketplace market, focusing on how they can enhance demand response and other DER programs. Presented by Jessie Mehrhoff, Research Analyst contributing to Navigant Research’s DER Solutions service.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Wizardry: How to Overcome Technical Road Blocks and Make Real for Power Generation

In an industry where health and safety rightfully leads the agenda, we thankfully don’t have enough failures to utilize to use AI (artificial intelligence ) or ML (machine learning ) appropriately. Utilizing 10+ years of advanced condition monitoring, Uniper has recorded all faults detected and qualified that over time to create a database of “pseudo-failures” which is large enough to apply ML and AI approaches with positive practical results.  Those 10+ years of pseudo-failures come from 50+ GW of assets, of all nearly all technology types, to create a unique knowledge base. This presentation explains the process Uniper went through to deliver auto diagnosis (feature detection) for advanced condition monitoring and in some cases provide time to failure (prognosis).  Presented by Pete Davies, VP, Head of Digital Engineering Solutions at Uniper.

Take the Pulse of your Operation in the Energy Industries: Leverage Data at Your Fingertips to Start Small and Scale Fast

As digitalization continues to shape the way our industry operates, being in command of operational data is integral to the future success of your business. It’s no secret that with so much information available, it can often raise more questions than answers.

  • Is it possible to create real operational value with this information?
  • How can I make the data cyber secure, granting access to those that need it, when they need it?
  • How can I leverage this to streamline my operation for the future?

These questions are answered and the value of the data at your fingertips, how you can protect and connect through secure digital ecosystems, and how you can start small and scale fast across your organization is discussed. Presented by Will Leonard, Asset Performance Management Product Manager, Energy Industries at ABB.
